I鈥檝e been using Spotify鈥檚 free version for years but only because the laptop app doesn鈥檛 he the same restrictions as mobile. You can select songs, you get unlimited skips and although you usually get ads every 2-3 songs, you can just mute them until the music comes back on.
Take full advantage of any free trial if you hen鈥檛 already and consider Student, Duo and Family options if they make sense for you.
If you鈥檙e afraid of switching from or to Spotify because you鈥檝e already got a curated library of songs and playlists, you can always transfer these from or to Spotify using a free app like SongShift.
