After a several-years break from Telegram, I created an account in order to join my new condominium community’s information sharing group. When I answered their ‘Introduce Yourself’ channel questions with brief, direct, non-marketing, polite responses, the Spam Bot froze my new account and accused me of violating policy. I appealed. Whoever or whatever reviews appeals denied the appeal. I appealed again, providing more detailed answers to the appeal process questions. It’s been over a week and I am still banned. The bot ge no meaningful feedback. I do understand there’s a need to detect and block illegitimate accounts, but the filters seem to be malfunctioning. I also understand it must be super challenging to support a large user base with a relatively small team. Still, if an app’s security approach simply prevents use, it’s not viable. This, on top of the lack of default E2EE that led me to oid Telegram to begin with. I hope the team gets the resources to fix these issues. We need more reliable E2EE communications options.
