The famed protection is a myth. My wife did a mistake and her account was hacked. "So, the account is tied to your number and you still he the number - we’ll get it back in no time!” - I said. Boy I was wrong! The fact that account is tied to number does you ZERO advantage. In fact, telegram doesn’t care. Support is non existent. Not virtually - literally. There’s no official support in telegram and there are volunteer channels that do the job. Even though the incident happened month ago and is resolved in a different way - I still keep this support request open, just to see if they will EVER reply at all. Just in case: the return of account was done by our friends, that included even bots checking on hacker’s activity - we where lucky she was hacked by amateurs. To get the account back we also had to dig an old iPad that wasn’t used for some time and had an older version of the telegram app that could force SMS check (now this feature is gone). So yeah, bottom line: if you thought (or rather, unknowingly, hoped) that telegram is secure and you’re protected or that their tight policies on number (like constant check if you still use certain number) - YOU ARE NOT. The messanger has a poor protection, false features and literally no user support.
