The Vijay Hazare Trophy got off to a record-breaking start on 24 December. A number of records were broken on a day when Mumbai, Delhi, Jharkhand, Bengal and Punjab, among other teams were victorious. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to domestic cricket in an emphatic manner, scoring sensational hundreds and this knocks he put to rest all talks over their future.

Vaibh Suryanshi once again showed why he was such a special talent, hitting 190 off just 84 deliveries in Bihar's record total of 574/6 in a Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh. Ishan Kishan, who was selected in India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, blazed his way to a 32-ball century. Kishan recently led Jharkhand to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma return to domestic cricket in style

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made their respective returns to domestic cricket in style. The two Team India stalwarts, who now play only ODI cricket, showed that they were more than ready for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit struck a spectacular 155 off just 94 deliveries, with 18 fours and nine sixes to his name.

He made his century off 62 balls, the fastest of his List-A career, helping Mumbai chase down a 237-run target to beat Sikkim by eight wickets. A legion of fans had turned up at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur to watch the Mumbai vs Sikkim match.

Virat, on his part, scored a terrific century for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh. The match was played behind closed doors, at BCCI's (Board of Control for Cricket in India) CoE (Centre of Excellence) and Virat dominated with the bat, continuing his red-hot form. Asked to chase a steep total of 299, Virat struck a majestic 131 off 101 deliveries, which included 14 fours and three sixes.

Virat Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record, fastest to 16,000 List-A runs

Virat broke Sachin Tendulkar's record of being the fastest to score 16,000 runs in List-A cricket. The right-hander, who needed just one run to attain the landmark, achieved the feat in 330 innings, going past Tendulkar, who had taken 391 innings to get to the mark.

Kohli also became the ninth player to score 16,000 runs in List-A cricket. Also, this was his 58th List-A century, two short of Tendulkar, who tops the list with 60 hundreds in the format.

Vaibh Suryanshi breaks AB de Villers' record, impresses once again

Vaibh Suryanshi continued to show why he is such a special talent as he struck a 36-ball century and finished with a jaw-dropping 190 off just 84 balls. At the age of 14 years and 271 days, the left-hander became the youngest centurion in men's List-A cricket. His innings included 16 fours and 15 sixes and he finished with an astounding strike-rate of 226.19.

Suryanshi also broke AB de Villiers' record, becoming the fastest to score 150 in List-A cricket. He got to the mark off 59 deliveries, surpassing de Villiers, who had taken 64 balls when he scored 162 against West Indies in the 2015 World Cup.

Sakibul Gani, Ishan Kishan among records in List-A cricket Sakibul Gani and Ishan Kishan etched their names in the record books with fiery centuries in List-A cricket. Gani, captaining Bihar smashed a century against Arunachal Pradesh off just 32 deliveries, becoming the fastest Indian to score a ton in the format.

He eclipsed teammate and the prodigious Vaibh Suryanshi, who had hit a century off 36 balls in the same match. Gani now holds the record of scoring the third-fastest century in men's List-A cricket with Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 balls) and AB de Villiers (31 balls) above him on the list.

Ishan Kishan continued his rich form with a 33-ball century, which came against Karnataka. The Jharkhand captain is now the second-fastest Indian to score a century in List-A cricket after Gani.

Bihar post record 574/6

Powered by Suryanshi and Gani's record-breaking knocks, Bihar scored a mammoth 574/6 against Arunachal Pradesh. This is the highest total ever scored in men's List-A cricket, going past Tamil Nadu's 506/2, coincidentally against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022-23 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Karnataka register highest run-chase in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Karnataka registered the highest run chase in Vijay Hazare Trophy history as they chased down 413 against Jharkhand. The earlier highest run-chase in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was the 384-run chase against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2011-12.
