A source told Us Weekly that the pair is still seeing each other, but has “decided to be much more private about it. They are still speaking and are very interested in each other.”
A second source added that their relationship “isn’t serious,” in part because Perry is “extremely busy right now” as she continues her Lifetimes Tour.
That insider said that they will be reuniting soon: “Justin has made plans to see her when she has downtime in a few weeks when she gets back from her tour in Brazil. Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating.” (Perry will be on break from September 20 to October 3.)
The update comes weeks after a Canadian political source told People on August 27 that Trudeau did not anticipate their July date in Montreal would make global headlines.
“Justin didn’t know so many people would find out about the private dinner,” the insider said. “He was also surprised by the international interest and how it went through the roof for days.”
Still, the source said that their connection was genuine: “Justin and Katy are for sure attracted to each other on several levels and had a wonderful time together in Canada. They discovered how they agree on many things and really enjoyed their encounter in Canada for as short a time as it was.”
The source told People that Trudeau “would he liked to he more control over how details were shared,” given he and Perry were just getting to know each other “and had no defined relationship.”
Generally, “he would prefer it more low-key,” the insider explained.
On August 20, People reported that Trudeau and Perry were still in contact but not about to go out again. “They had a casual first get-to-know-you date,” a source explained. “And although they he shared interests and plenty to talk about, dating just isn’t on her radar. She’s stayed in touch with Justin, but there are no current plans for another meet-up.”
