Portland fire crews he knocked down a large fire off of Commercial Street that sunk a boat and heily damaged a building on the Custom House Wharf Friday night.
The Portland Fire Department responded to the three-alarm fire near Maritime Antiques around 5:30 p.m. By 7:30 pm officials had contained the flames and were assessing damage. Central Maine Power was also on the scene working to restore power to the area.
AdvertisementAccording to Deputy Chief Jon Hendricks, one firefighter sustained minor injuries. The fire also damaged and sunk one boat on the waterfront.
The Chief says that due to the extensive damage the investigation into what caused the fire will take some time.
On Saturday afternoon, Portland Fire Department said a second firefighter was injured while responding to the fire on Friday night. They sustained minor injuries as well.
