Macaulay Culkin is a proud dad of two.
The Home Alone star and his fiancé, actress Brenda Song, he welcomed two sons together over the course of their nearly decade-long relationship. Their firstborn, Dakota Song Culkin, arrived in April 2021. They welcomed another son named Carson Song Culkin just over a year later, in 2022.
Song, 37, opened up to Kelly Ripa about delivering her second son in a candid February 2025 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark. "I always say, my second son, he really wanted to be here. No doubt about it,” the Running Point star joked, per a People article from the time. “He made that choice and I was very fortunate. I didn’t even push him out, he came out on a contraction. I was like, 'Oh, he’s ready to be here.’”
Although the two former child stars met at a mutual friend’s house in 2014, Culkin and Song didn’t officially connect until they were co-stars in the comedy-drama film Changeland. They went public with their relationship in late 2017. “I was waiting for the other shoe to drop,” Culkin, now 45, told Esquire of when they first started dating. Eventually, he realized, “No—sometimes it’s just good.”

After welcoming their first son in 2021, the couple got engaged in January 2022. "Macaulay and Brenda he loved being together as a family since welcoming Dakota. The engagement is the natural next step for them,” a source shared with People at the time. “They are excited for their future together," the source added.
While they hen’t tied the knot yet, the actors he enjoyed being a family of four with the arrival of their second son, Carson, in 2022. Here’s everything Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song he shared about their children and their approach to parenting.
Their firstborn’s name honors Culkin’s late sister.After four years of dating, Culkin and Song both became first-time parents in 2021. Their son, Dakota Song Culkin, arrived on April 5 at 1:10 p.m. in Los Angeles, People confirmed. “We’re overjoyed,” the couple said in a statement shared with Esquire.
Their son’s name is a tribute to the actor’s late sister, Dakota Culkin, who died in December 2008 after being struck by a car while crossing the street. She was 29 years old.
They chose not to he a nanny so they could be ‘hands-on.'

Culkin and Song decided not to he a nanny, instead relying on their village, which includes Song’s mom. “My boyfriend and I are very hands-on. We don’t he a nanny, but my mom has been here with us since my son was born…When I was working, my mom would bring him to set so I could breastfeed and see him during the day,” the Suite Life of Zack & Cody alum told The Cut in 2022.
“People tell you a lot about labor and pregnancy, but not about the fourth trimester. To my girlfriends that are pregnant I say, make sure you he help. Because your instinct is to want to do it all and you physically can’t,” she added.
A 2025 Cosmopolitan cover story featuring the two actors highlighted how all of their children’s playdates are held at their house, something that Culkin is proud of. In the same interview, the dad of two described how his then-2-year-old son Carson resembles him. “Carson walks on his tippy-toes, like me,” he said. “And DakDak [Dakota] is a stomper, like me,” Song added of their eldest.
Their parenting secret is communication.

Juggling two boys under the age of 5 isn’t easy, but Culkin and Song keep their sanity by hing a solid line of communication. “Brenda and I are very good at communicating with each other,” the actor told E! News in December 2024. To that end, when it comes to sharing the load of parenting, they pay attention to how the other one is doing.
“I call it tagging in and out," Culkin said in the same interview. "You know, 'You tag in.' Like wrestling. 'Hey, I've been at [this] for about three hours. I need to tag out. I need quiet time.'" He also explained that he can tell when his wife-to-be has “hit her wall” and step in for his turn.
"God bless, Brenda is a champion," he shared. "And she is the best mom. She's the best boy mom. She's just the best mom. She's the best person. I wake up every day knowing I'm lucky. Not feeling I feel lucky, but I know I'm lucky."

Dakota thought Home Alone was about his childhood.
Kids can’t always discern the line between fiction and reality. For Culkin’s eldest son, this confusion led to hilarious results. Per their parents’ January 2025 Cosmopolitan cover story, Dakota and Carson he seen Home Alone with their family almost every Christmas of their lives.
“Dakota thinks that he’s Kevin McCallister,” Song shared, referring to the film’s leading character, played by a young Culkin. “And Mack [Song’s nickname for Macaulay] will jokingly ask, ‘Do you remember you did that scene?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah!’”
Culkin added that when he asks Dakota if he remembers hing blonde hair for the role, his son claims he does. “He’s like, ‘Yep, I do.’ Boy, I’m raising a liar,” the actor quipped with a laugh.
Culkin’s brother Kieran confirmed the arrival of their second son.

Oscar-winning actor Kieran Culkin, Macaulay’s younger brother, confirmed that the couple had welcomed their second child. Their son Carson arrived just over a year after Dakota’s birth, in late 2022. Speaking to Access Hollywood on the red carpet for the finale of his show Succession, Kieran was asked if his two children with wife Jazz Charton had met their cousins yet.
“Well, the cousins live in Los Angeles. We live in New York. And with hing a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, and I’m as busy as I am, there’s just no getting on a plane and going, and same with them. So I hen’t met [baby] number two yet, and [my kids] hen’t met number two yet either, because we just hen’t been able to figure that out,” he explained.
In 2025, Macaulay told Cosmopolitan his sons were born 15 months apart. “[Song’s and my] discussion was, ‘We’ll talk about it next year.’ Less than a week later, she’s like, ‘I’m pregnant,’” he recalled.
The boys made a rare public appearance in 2023 for Culkin’s Walk of Fame ceremony.

Dakota and Carson had their first glimpse of their parents’ fame in December 2023, when they accompanied Culkin and Song to the former’s ceremony where he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“I'd like to thank Brenda. You're absolutely everything," Culkin said in his speech accepting the honor. "You're the best person I've ever known. And after the birth of our two boys, you've become one of my three forite people," he joked, per People.
The couple posed with their eldest son, who sported a mohawk and wore an adorable blue suit, on the red carpet. They were also photographed sitting with a then-infant Carson, who sported a gray knit vest for the occasion.
Culkin and Song prefer to keep their children out of the spotlight.

Song reflected on the impact of the family’s first and only public appearance in a January 2025 interview with Bustle. “That was such a special moment. We couldn’t he them miss that,” she recalled of their appearance at Culkin’s Walk of Fame ceremony. “[But Dakota] was so scared of all the cameras. That’s one of the reasons why we sort of keep them away [from the spotlight]. They did not understand what was happening.”
In the same interview, she recalled Dakota’s reaction to paparazzi photographing her at one of his soccer practices. “My son was like, ‘Why is that man taking pictures of you, mama?’ You could take pictures of me all day. I don’t care. But when it’s your kids, it’s different. They didn’t ask for this life.”
The Dollface alum and her fiancé choose not to share pictures of their children on social media for the same reason, but that doesn’t mean they’re not documenting every moment for their own memories. “I literally he 60,000 photos on my phone and all of them are of my children. I he nothing to post,” she told Bustle.
