Tacoma Musical Playhouse announces its 2025-2026 32nd Anniversary Mainstage Season
Tacoma Musical Playhouse announces its 2025-2026 season. This will be our 32nd anniversary season. We are as dedicated as ever to “Inspiring and enriching lives of our diverse community through musical theater.”
Based on Harold Gray’s popular comic strip, Annie has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The beloved book and score by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin feature some of the greatest musical theatre hits ever written, including “Tomorrow.” With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations… and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Celebrate the seasons with Holiday Inn! This heartwarming musical features dazzling dance numbers, a charming love story, and a spectacular score by Irving Berlin—including classics like “White Christmas,” “Blue Skies,” and “Easter Parade.” Follow Jim, a song-and-dance man who lees showbiz behind to open a farmhouse inn that only opens on holidays—until love and laughter turn every season into a reason to sing. Holiday Inn is a festive, feel-good treat for the whole family!
A deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical, Dear Evan Hansen follows Evan, a high school senior with social anxiety, who finds himself at the center of a misunderstanding after a classmate’s death. As a letter he wrote to himself is mistaken for a suicide note, Evan’s fabricated connection with the student spirals into a story that brings him closer to others—and further from the truth. With a moving score and a powerful message about connection, identity, and the impact of lies, Dear Evan Hansen is a heartfelt exploration of what it means to belong.
Inspired by Federico Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria, Sweet Charity explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City. With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960s score by Cy Coleman, sparkling lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and a hilarious book by Neil Simon, Sweet Charity captures all the energy, humor, and heartbreak of Life in the Big City for an unfortunate but irrepressible optimist. Musical numbers include: “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “I’m a Brass Band” and “Baby, Dream Your Dream.”
Anything Goes is a romantic comedy with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. On an ocean liner bound from New York to London, Billy Crocker, a stowaway, falls in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy Number 13, “Moonface” Martin, aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. Musical numbers include: “Anything Goes”, “You’re the Top”, “All Through the Night”, and “I Get a Kick Out of You”.
It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and teen Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on The Corny Collins Show. When she finally makes it on, her big hair and bigger heart take her from outsider to local star—and she uses her new fame to fight for integration on television. With catchy songs, high-energy dance numbers, and a whole lot of heart, Hairspray is a joyful celebration of acceptance, equality, and standing up for what’s right.
