Violet, a goldendoodle, has endured unimaginable hardship. When she was brought to Sky Sanctuary Rescue by her former owner, she was weighed down by several years’ worth of matted fur.
As the rescue team at Sky Sanctuary Rescue began carefully shing off Violet’s fur, they were shocked by her emaciated appearance. It became clear that she’d been subjected to severe abuse and neglect.
“[S]he is so depleted — as a full sized golden doodle, she weighs just 12 pounds,” Sky Sanctuary Rescue wrote on Instagram.
Violet needed immediate intensive medical care. She received a blood transfusion and a feeding tube to provide her with the energy and nutrients she desperately needed. Her veterinary team felt a glimmer of hope as the treatments seemed to make Violet feel a tiny bit better.
“[W]e witnessed the life come back into her body,” Sky Sanctuary Rescue wrote.
Considering how dire Violet’s condition was, her rescuers weren’t sure what to expect. Would she ever be able to enjoy life the way other dogs do?
Violet’s resilience and strength ended up shocking everyone at Sky Sanctuary Rescue. Within days, she took her first steps.
After 11 days, she went on her first walk.
A few days ago, she got to play with her first toy.
“As she slowly regains energy, her little personality begins to shine,” Sky Sanctuary Rescue wrote.
In the weeks since she was rescued, Violet has gained 7 pounds, and only continues growing bigger and stronger every day.
As Sky Sanctuary Rescue has been sharing Violet’s journey on social media, thousands of people he been touched by her brery.
“My forite thing about her is that she didn’t let life break her spirit,” one commenter wrote.
Violet still has a ways to go before she’ll be fully healed. But she can rest easy now knowing that every day, she’ll get plenty of food and plenty of love.
“I am just so proud and amazed and grateful that we had the opportunity to help her live,” Sky Sanctuary Rescue wrote.
