At the Roseville Adult Learning Center, we work with English Learners (EL) with a variety of proficiency levels. We are looking for patient, flexible, self-motived adults who are willing to commit time and energy to our EL team to help students reach their goals.
Volunteer Opportunities
EL Tutor: Work on English language skills with an adult English Learner in a one-on-one setting or in the classroom. EL Classroom Assistant: Assist instructors in the classroom or teach an advanced group of learners under the supervision of a mentor teacher or advisor. Subjects and learner levels vary and include the following areas: math, writing, computer skills, citizenship, reading, and conversation. Individualized, small group, or large group instruction. Digital Education Lab Support Volunteer: Assist students in computer-based learning. Skill sets include: using a mouse, keyboarding, e-mail, Windows, internet browsing, and Microsoft Office... plus a lot of patience!Qualified Volunteers
Volunteers need to be able to work with adults with limited English proficiency and willing to commit to a regular schedule. Dependable and prompt, interested in others, able to relate to learners with a wide range of abilities. Respectful of confidentiality, literate in English, flexible, friendly, patient, optimistic. Ability to appreciate, validate, and affirm people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds is essential.
Schedule
A commitment is required: two hours per week for six months (or one semester). Opportunities are ailable Monday - Friday.
Times:
Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday: 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.If you can't commit to a regular, weekly schedule, there are often one-time and short-term volunteer opportunities ailable. Some examples may include: coaching a student in learning sewing with a sewing machine, handwork, or tending to our community garden. Contact us for more information.
