HOOVER, Ala. —

A couple found dead inside of a Hoover home was identified by the coroner Wednesday morning.

Christina Chambers was a sports reporter and a former intern at WVTM 13 in 2009 and 2010. The coroner identified the man as Johnny Rimes Jr., 41. Chambers was 38.

A toddler was found inside of the house unharmed when the family member found the couple with gunshot wounds around 9 a.m.

Police arrived at the house on Highland Manor Court and Chambers and Rimes were declared dead.

Investigators believe the deaths may be a murder-suicide and there is no threat to the public. The coroner reported it was a reported domestic assault.

“We are heartbroken to confirm the death of former WBRC reporter Christina Chambers," Maze said in a statement to WVTM 13. "Christina was a valued member of our newsroom and a beloved colleague whose warmth, humor, and passion for sports left a lasting impact on everyone who worked with her.

"Christina was an accomplished journalist and athlete who brought energy, professionalism, and genuine care to her work. She was especially proud of her ties to UAB, high school sports, and her community. We are praying for Christina’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Neighbor Charles Maple expressed his sorrow, saying, "She was just a beautiful person. And, she was a great athlete. And she's, she loved her new job. Love what she did in the past. You always talked about it, you know, was the kind of person that, you know, she was special. You know, I'm 80 years old now, and I've seen a lot of people. But you always come across somebody when, you know, they got it and she had it."

A GoFundMe has been set up and Chambers' family says the money will go toward the 3-year-old's education. The visitation for Chambers will be in Cullman on Sunday and the funeral service will be on Monday.
