The heart of any Ford is its engine. And today there are 13 of them ailable across the entire Ford portfolio. Some are ailable in just one vehicle while others are shared across many. There are gas engines, diesel engines, turbocharged engines, and supercharged engines. They range from a tiny 1.5 liters to a sizable 7.3 liters. (We'll be listing them in order of displacement.) The engine with the most torque produces nearly ten times more than the one with the least. It is quite an engine landscape, and we are here to help you nigate it. What follows is a list of every engine ailable, the high-level specs and what vehicle you will find it in.

1. 1.5L EcoBoost Inline-3The smallest engine in the current Ford lineup is the 1.5L 3-cylinder from the Bronco Sport and Escape. While more power is always good, these small crossovers don’t need it. These vehicles are not purchased to do hey towing or hauling. In these rides, you want a small and efficient engine that gets the job done. That is what the little 1.5L is all about. And it sips on regular unleaded fuel, so you don’t he to spring for the expensive premium stuff.

2. 2.0L EcoBoost Inline-4Adding an extra cylinder and a half liter of displacement gets you the 2.0L EcoBoost that sees duty in a number of Ford vehicles. This engine is still on the small side, but it has some decent grunt. Of the four ailable engines on the Escape, this one offers the highest towing capacity. It is important to note that starting with the 2025 models, a gas particulate filter will be added to the engine. They help with emissions but rob power. The 2025 models lose 12 horsepower from the figures quoted below.

3. 2.3L EcoBoost Inline-4The 2.3L EcoBoost is a versatile engine that is used throughout the Ford lineup. Its most powerful iteration is under the hood of the Mustang EcoBoost. But this engine also gets the job done in several other vehicles. It is not the most powerful engine choice in any of the models it is offered in. However, for a base engine, it has decent performance.

4. 2.5L Hybrid Inline-4The 2.5L Hybrid comes in two flors. There is the regular hybrid and the plug-in hybrid. But no matter which you choose, you are getting an amazingly efficient engine. Of course, that efficiency comes at the expense of power. This engine has less torque than any other Ford engine ailable today. Even less than the tiny 3-cylinder.

5. 2.7L EcoBoost V6The engines are getting bigger and so are the power figures. The 2.7L V6 is the base engine in the F-150. There is nothing base about the power output. And when optioned in the Bronco, it brings even more power to the table. It's also ailable on the Ranger, where it makes the least amount of power. It was not too long ago that you needed a V8 engine to make this kind of power.

6. 3.0L EcoBoost V6This might not be the most powerful engine in the Ford portfolio, but it is a special one. It sees duty in some of the most exciting Ford models. The Ranger Raptor, Bronco Raptor, and Explorer ST all get this engine as standard. It can be added as an option on the Explorer Platinum. Sure, it may not make the same sounds as a naturally aspirated V8, but it brings plenty of performance.

7. 3.5L EcoBoost V6 (Regular and High Output)The 3.5L EcoBoost V6 comes in a regular and High Output version. The standard variant is ailable across a variety of F-150 and Expedition trim levels. The High Output can be found under the hood of the F-150 Raptor as well as the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Nigator. We were all sad the day this replaced the V8 several years ago, but the 3.5L H.O. has proven to be a worthy replacement. And the regular version is no slouch either with 500 pound-feet of torque.

8. 3.5L PowerBoost V6This engine is found under the hood of the F-150. Ford fans were a bit concerned when word broke that the F-150 was going hybrid. But there was no reason to be alarmed as this is an excellent engine that boasts some significant advantages. Properly equipped, it can tow 11,200 pounds. But a lot of Ford engines can tow big load. But the PowerBoost can provide 7.2kW of ailable electrical power from the Pro Power Onboard to your truck bed.

9. 5.0L Coyote V8If you are looking for the most legendary engine in the Ford lineup, you can stop right here. If you are looking for the best sounding engine in the Ford lineup, you can stop right here. This versatile unit powers the iconic Mustang sports car and the equally iconic F-150 pickup truck. Despite the fact that more powerful engines exist, there are some people that refuse to he anything but a naturally aspirated V8 in their sports car or truck. And for those folks, only the Coyote 5.0L will do.

10. 5.2L Predator Supercharged V8No engine in the Ford lineup makes more horsepower than this. Plucked from the Shelby GT500 is this giggle-inducing supercharged dual-overhead cam monster powerplant. Sure, you will probably erage single-digit mileage, but do you really give a damn about that? This powerplant makes the Raptor R the maddest truck in town. The days of engines like this are numbered so grab one now.

11. 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel V8You know this is an insane engine when the lower output model spits out over 1,000 pound-feet of torque. The high output version dials things up to 11 or 12 (hundred) to be precise. The highest torque of any engine in its class. It makes the Ford Super Duty the most capable truck in the world. Period.

The base 6.8L V8 engine will be fine for most people. This engine debuted for the 2023 model year and has served as the base engine in the Super Duty lineup. You can think of it as a scaled down version of the 7.3L Godzilla unit. Because of that, many people call it Mini Zilla.
