It’s been more than two years since Apple TV+ premiered The Last Thing He Told Me, a thriller executive produced by Reese Witherspoon that premiered to 4.5 million unique viewers in its first month of streaming, setting a record as the platform’s most-watched limited series at the time, according to Variety.
Although initially conceived as a one-off, its success and the continued interest from cast, crew, and audiences were too much to ignore. In March 2024, the series was officially renewed for a second season, and 20 months later, we finally he more information about when new episodes are coming (and more).

When will The Last Thing He Told Me premiere?On November 5, 2025, Apple TV+ finally confirmed that Season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me will premiere on February 20, 2026. There will be eight episodes.
Prior to the announcement, the cast and crew had shared updates about production on social media. In a November 2024 Instagram post, executive producer and star Jennifer Garner confirmed that the second installment had entered production, while also seemingly confirming that some familiar faces would be returning alongside her.

What is The Last Thing He Told Me about?Season 1 of Last Thing He Told Me centered on Hannah Hall (Garner), a woodturner who settled down in sunny Sausalito, California, with her husband Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and her moody stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice). As she attempted to get closer to Bailey, the unthinkable happened: Owen disappeared, only leing behind a note imploring Hannah to protect his daughter.

Stripped of their only common link, the two surviving Hall women had to join forces to uncover the truth behind Owen’s sudden departure and who exactly this man really is. By the end of the season, Hannah discovered that Owen and Bailey had escaped a life in Texas as part of the witness protection program, and realizing Owen’s presence could put Bailey in danger, Hannah decided to make a deal to protect her stepdaughter, leing Owen forced to stay in hiding.
A five-year time jump showed Owen and Hannah crossing paths as he passed her a secret message, and the second season will pick up at that point. “After Owen shows up after five years on the run, Hannah and her stepdaughter Bailey find themselves in a race to figure out how to reunite their family before the past catches up to them,” a logline for the season reveals.
Who is in The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 cast?In addition to Garner, Rice, and Coster-Waldau, Did Morse (who plays Owen’s father-in-law Nicholas Bell) will also be returning from Season 1. The new season will also add Judy Greer and Rita Wilson in starring roles. Augusto Aguilera is back as US Marshal Grady Bradford, while Josh Hamilton, Nick Hargrove, Michael Galante, John Noble, Michael Hyatt, and Luke Kirby are also joining the cast.

One Season 1 main cast member who is not on the returnee list is Aisha Tyler, who played Hannah’s best friend.
Will The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 be based on a book?The first season of The Last Thing He Told Me was based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Laura De. Season 2 will be based on De’s sequel book, The First Time I Saw Him, which is due for a January 6, 2026, release.
Apple TV+ confirmed that The First Time I Saw Him is the source material for Season 2, despite De previously telling Us Weekly, “The show is going to get to be a big surprise for me. There’s a wonderful team of writers in place, my husband is involved, but actually I don’t hear anything because it’s happening. I’m going to get to see all that a little bit later.”

He declared to Hannah that he still has feelings for her and reminisced over what could’ve been. But because of his past, they can’t be, and before anyone else could spot him, he was gone once again.
While the first season ended on a relatively conclusive note, its follow-up will undoubtedly continue to up the ante for the Hall family.
