Hugh Michael Jackman (born 12 October 1968) is an Australian actor and singer, who first gained recognition for his performances in theatre and television, before landing the breakthrough role of Wolverine in the X-Men film series, from X-Men (2000) to Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). In addition to his screen success, Jackman has demonstrated significant versatility in his career, starring in various film genres, from romantic comedies such as Kate & Leopold (2001), action-horrors like Van Helsing (2004), to musical dramas like Les Misérables (2012) and The Greatest Showman (2017). Jackman's vocal talent also shines in animated movies like Flushed Away, Happy Feet (both 2006), and Rise of the Guardians (2012).
Along with his movie and TV activities, Jackman is noted for his stage roles in the original Australian productions of Beauty and the Beast as Gaston in 1995 and Sunset Boulevard as Joe Gillis in 1996. He received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for his performance in the West End revival of Oklahoma! in 1998. Jackman assumed memorable roles on Broadway, one of them being Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz, which brought him a Tony Award in 2004. From 2021 to 2023, Jackman starred in the Broadway revival of the musical The Music Man, and this performance led to another Tony Award nomination. An Emmy Award came Jackman’s way for his hosting of the 2005 Tony Awards ceremony.
