Employment in health care and social assistance fell by 1.9% (-6,600) in October, yet overall employment increased by 2.7% (+8,900) when compared to October 2024. Alberta Health Services announced that they he laid off 100 employees and eliminated 300 vacant positions. It was reported that many of the positions were in corporate services and did not impact any front-line areas or services. Meanwhile, the Government of Alberta announced it will provide $243 million over three years to the Medical Device Reprocessing Upgrade Program. The funding will help in upgrading and modernizing medical device reprocessing departments across the province and reduce surgical wait times.
