A fresh face on NSW’s South Coast, Motel Molly is a boutique beachside retreat that opened in December 2021 after an extensive renovation. Decked out in pretty pastels, the Molly is the place for a laid-back stay, where you can sip a cocktail by the pool, take in the ocean views from your balcony or stroll to the sand.

Where is Motel Molly?

The motel is in the small seaside town of Mollymook, on the NSW South Coast, a scenic three-hour drive from Sydney and five minutes from both the fishing port of Ulladulla and the historic hamlet of Milton.

What’s near Motel Molly?

Mollymook is home to a golden strip of sand, with sheltered, patrolled waters for swimming and a bike and walking path running along it. Take your pick of a string of surf beaches within a 10-minute drive, such as Narrawallee, Rennies and Dolphin Point. For a winery experience, Cupitt’s Estate in Ulladulla offers tastings at its cellar door and live music on Fridays and Saturdays. There are also hiking and mountain bike trails in the area.

Room types

The property has 16 suites and apartments. In keeping with its Mediterranean vibe, the light-filled rooms are white and cream with salmon and maroon highlights in throws and pillows, seagrass carpet and expansive windows. Book into a Garden Suite with a patio facing onto the lawn, a Balcony Suite with views to the ocean or a Spa Suite with a Moroccan-style sunken bath. Plus, there are one-, two- or three-bedroom apartments. All the guestrooms he king-sized beds, generous marble bathrooms with Le Labo amenities and a minibar where you’ll find drinks such as Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, Negroni from Never Never Distilling Co. and Cupitt’s Estate wines.

Restaurants and bars

Motel Molly doesn’t he an on-site restaurant or bar but there are plenty of options close by. Stroll to the Beach Hut Cafe on Mollymook Beach for a hearty breakfast or grab a coffee to go. Head to Rick Stein at Bannisters restaurant, four minutes away, for a seafood feast of fresh oysters, locally caught fish and matched wines. Bannisters also has a Rooftop Bar & Grill for cocktails, wine and craft beers and topnotch bar snacks. The paddock-to-plate restaurant at Cupitt’s Estate serves dishes such as chargrilled Yamba prawns and pan-roasted barramundi, paired with the winery’s own drops.

Sustainability

The stay has a variety of eco-friendly features, including two complimentary Tesla EV chargers, plant-based and biodegradable Seedling Sole slippers, vegan and cruelty-free Le Labo amenities and retro cruiser bikes to hire so you can go exploring on two wheels.

Pool

Relax with a cocktail on a sun lounge under the green-and-white beach umbrellas by the small but chic swimming pool.
