The Ikran are flying creatures native to Pandora, and are abundant in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. As you trerse the Western Frontier, your Na’vi character will eventually connect with their own Ikran, gaining a flying mount in the process. But where can you find it?
This page acts as a comprehensive breakdown of how to find and bond with your Ikran in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as how to fly with and look after it.
Where To Find Your IkranFirst and foremost, you can rest easy. Gaining the Ikran flying mount is unmissable and is a necessary part of the main story, so don’t worry about hing missed the opportunity in your first few hours. Your character will journey to the floating mountains and find your Ikran within the Ikran Rookery there during the Take Flight main mission.
This mission revolves around a lot of climbing and trersal as you make your way to the Rookery south of the Aranahe Hometree and then proceed high up into the clouds. Using Mermaid Tail plants to springboard yourself across gaps and “unlocking” Gateway Lillies, you’ll eventually encounter an unruly Ikran. Slowly approach and attempt to soothe it multiple times and on the third attempt you’ll successfully bond.
Now bonded, you’ll be able to select your Ikran’s name and color pattern. The color pattern can be changed at any point going forward, but the name is permanent so be sure to choose one you like. From here you’ll then be aggressively thrust into a flying tutorial where you can finally soar over Pandora!
How to Fly Your IkranTo begin with, you'll obviously need to ensure you're riding your Ikran. After bonding with it, you can call it at any time by hitting up on the D-Pad or H on keyboard. This can be done on the ground, where it will land nearby for you to get on, but it can also be done while falling through the air, where it'll seamlessly catch you.
By pressing forward the Ikran will accelerate, and will decelerate when you pull backward. Pull back enough and your Ikran will hover in place in the air. This is an excellent way of positioning yourself to open fire on enemies, or to seek out a great landing spot or the location of a nearby collectible.
Press Spacebar on keyboard or X/A on controller to gain a burst of speed while flying. Each time you hit this input, your Ikran flaps their wings. The fastest method of flying is by repeatedly pressing this button, but your Ikran's stamina will quickly deplete doing this. It's best to hit the button a few times as you begin flying to get an initial boost of speed and then intermittently press it mid-flight.
If you're close to the ground, you can press Control on keyboard or O/B on controllers to he the Ikran automatically land. If you hold down that same input, you can jump off of your Ikran regardless of the height.
Aerial CombatAiming, shooting, ammo switching/crafting, and your weapon wheel all remain the exact same on your Ikran as it is on the ground, but there's one thing in particular you'll want to keep in mind. As you aim down sights while on your Ikran, it will continue to fly in the direction they were facing as you began to aim. This can be manually corrected by holding Shift on keyboard or pressing in the left analog stick on controller, which will he your Ikran turn in the direction you are currently facing/aiming.
There is also a skill within the Memories of the Rider Skill Tree called 'Flying Takedown which enables your Ikran to take down RDA Scorpions and RDA Samsons in the air while they are staggered. When close to a staggered target, aim at it and press ◻/X on controller, or E on keyboard and the target will be attacked and destroyed.
How to Care For Your IkranMuch like yourself, your Ikran has a Stamina bar that will need to be monitored and maintained. Your Ikran’s stamina will be depleted whenever you boost, dodge roll, or perform special attacks while flying.
Again just like you, you can bring up your weapon wheel while in flight, tab over to food, and give a meal to your Ikran. This’ll restore Stamina, but will of course use up a food resource in your inventory. To reduce the need to manually feed your Ikran, you can invest in the Rider Skill Tree and unlock the Aerial Fishing I skill early on. This grants your Ikran the ability to automatically catch and eat fish whenever you fly low over deep water, refilling its Stamina bar without you hing to feed it (or removing any obtained resources).
Last but certainly not least, you can approach the head of your Ikran and interact to pet it!
