Bruce Brown has spent his NBA career moving between several teams, though none of his stops lasted particularly long. This season, he returned to the Denver Nuggets after spending one year with the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite receiving offers from the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, Brown ultimately chose to rejoin the Denver Nuggets.
In a recent appearance on the DNVR Nuggets podcast, Brown revealed just how close he came to signing a lucrative deal with the Lakers following his first stint with the Nuggets. He explained that a three-year, $50 million contract with Los Angeles was nearly finalized during that time. The Lakers were also willing to give him the starter position at point guard.
“I was going to the Lakers after the championship year. Free agency started. They called me… [Jordan Ott] is there. JO is s my guy, and they wanted me to be starting point guard,” Brown said.

I can be a starting point guard for this, and all I’m doing is giving them the ball and getting the hell out of the way. And I was like, ‘I’m going to do it,’ and I was going there on a three-year deal,” he added.
Brown was a key contributor during the Nuggets’ 2022–23 championship season. He eraged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game as Denver captured the NBA title.

“He is Mr. Nugget! We call him that in the locker room,” Brown said.
The Nuggets currently sit at 19–6 on the season, holding the second seed in the Western Conference. Given Denver’s strong form, Brown is likely feeling confident that his decision to turn down the Lakers and Suns this summer was the right one.
