Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s most popular online course, “Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution,” has opened enrollment for a special study session, beginning April 15. The course is taught by Larry P. Arnn, Hillsdale College president and professor of politics and history; John Grant, chairman and associate professor of politics; Ronald J. Pestritto, Charles and Lucia Shipley Professor in the American Constitution; Kevin Portteus, Lawrence Fertig Professor of Politics; and Thomas G. West, Paul Ermine Potter and Dawn Tibbetts Potter Professor of Politics. The study session will run from April 15 through May 8, but students may join at any time.
“We believe that the study of the principles and purpose of the Constitution is of the utmost importance,” said Kyle Murnen, director of online courses at Hillsdale College. “This study session—adapted for this time when many students are at home—is a resource to help high school students and people everywhere understand the American Founding.”
The “Constitution 101” study session includes 12 lectures, split up over 11 lessons that will be sent out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning on April 15. Lesson topics include “The Theory of the Declaration and the Constitution,” “Consent of the Governed and the Separation of Powers,” “The Administrative State Today,” and more.
Course materials are ailable on the course website and include recommended reading material, study guides, and quizzes to go with each lesson. A final quiz will be provided after the 11 lessons are completed, and any participant that scores 80% or higher will receive a digital certificate from Hillsdale College for the course. An essay contest is open to high school students.
