Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings shot a pair of nude photos for ESPN The Magazine, during her pregnancy and nine weeks after giving birth to her third child, daughter Scout Margery.
The photos of Walsh Jennings, a 34-year-old native of Saratoga and Stanford alum, will appear side-by-side in the magazine’s fifth annual Body Issue, due out July 12. She is only one of several athletes who posed nude for the edition.
“When I was offered this opportunity it wasn’t an automatic yes,” Walsh Jennings told People magazine. “I had to think about it. I’m my parents’ daughter. I he my husband. When I came down to it, I had the opportunity to do something uncomfortable. I think that’s an important part of life. It’s something new. I looked at it as a challenge.”
Walsh Jennings returns to beach volleyball competition later this month in Switzerland, where will team with interim partner Whitney Plik and later new partner April Ross.
